If you ever find yourself lucky enough to be heading for the West Indies, apart from the beaches, a must-see, is the indescribably cute bird, known as the Cuban Tody.

Not much bigger than many small Hummingbirds, the Cuban Tidy is a tiny bird that packs quite a bit of punch into its tiny body.

A tiny, short-tailed bird, with a rather big head, its brilliant leaf-green back, and head, which changes abruptly to a geranium-red colored throat. If that’s not showy enough, it also sports a touch of blue on each cheek. It also has a nice long bill built especially for catching insects.

Found throughout woodlands on the island of Cuba, todies can be seen foraging for insects. Their wings making an audible whirring sound as they track down their prey. If you can’t see one, it is possible to track one down just by listening.
