If you are hiding a bit of a Gothic side, or perhaps you are into horror movies, especially those that are vampire-related, this is going to make your day!
They do exist, a parrot that only Count Dracula himself would have wanted as a pet is actually called the Dracula Parrot. Otherwise known as Pesquet’s parrot, these mysterious-looking, slightly fearsome birds are pretty hard to forget once you see one!

With their dark black feathers contrasting against scarlet plumage they would certainly look the part in any Transalvanianan castle. Though the real truth is these parrots are not at all bloodthirsty and not as scary as they look.

If you want to meet the Pesquet’s parrot, you’ll have to travel to New Guinea as they can be found nowhere else. They are large birds that weigh around 26 oz and have a length of 20 inches.

The male parrot can be distinguished from females after the red patches that can be found behind their ears and they are most likely to be spotted in the mountains of New Guinea.

They move by jumping which makes them vulnerable to predators, and sadly the Pesquet’s parrot population is in decline due to poaching and loss of territory.
