Game OVER for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid as new right-back is coming

Real Madrid are ready to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold

He started the domestic season in possession of the starting shirt under new coach Xabi Alonso but it wasn’t long until the fit-again Dani Carvajal won his place back.

Then injury struck once again – with Trent suffering a hamstring problem in the Champions League against Marseille which kept him out for two months.

Another injury followed in December – during a league game against Athletic Club – and he hasn’t played in two months.

January brought stories that the player was disillusioned since his move to the Spanish capital – citing broken promises and the sacking of Alonso.

Manchester City and Newcastle were said to be interested in a £35m deal for the full-back.

Real Madrid want Wesley and Alex Jimenez

And there appears to be substance in the reports that Madrid are planning to move on from Trent – less than a year after his much-vaunted capture from the Premier League champions.

El Nacional is reporting that Los Blancos are now “obliged” to bring in a new right-back amid Trent’s disappointing output and Carvajal’s expiring contract.

“Another area where Real Madrid is obliged to bring someone in is right-back,” the report reads.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold has not impressed with his performances and has accumulated numerous physical problems, forcing him to miss more than half of the matches.

“Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal, the captain, is out of contract on June 30th and will not be renewed.”

Two players mentioned as potential replacements for Alexander-Arnold should be familiar to Liverpool.

“Florentino Pérez will have to recruit a new specialist, and Wesley, from AS Roma, and Álex Jiménez, from AFC Bournemouth, are both good options,” the report reads.

Wesley was a Liverpool target while still at Flamengo before moving to Serie A while Jimenez was outstanding in a recent Premier League defeat of the Reds by Bournemouth.

It looks like the writing is now firmly on the wall for Trent’s Madrid career – with his dream move over before it really began.
