Real Madrid have officially confirmed their withdrawal from the controversial European Super League project, following Barcelona’s exit earlier this month.

With no clubs remaining in the planned competition for the big clubs, the European Super League is now officially ‘dead’.

The latest club to announce its departure from the project is one of the main creators and founders of this competition, Real Madrid.

“UEFA, the European Football Clubs (EFC) and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the good of European club football”

“Following several months of discussions held for the benefit of European football, UEFA, the European Football Clubs (EFC) and Real Madrid CF announce that they have reached an agreement in principle for the benefit of European club football, respecting the principle of sporting merit and emphasising the long-term sustainability of clubs and the improvement of the fan experience through the use of technology.”

“This agreement in principle will also serve to resolve legal disputes related to the European Super League, once a final agreement is implemented,” Los Blancos’ official statement said. /Telegraph/
