Liverpool superstar stalls contract talks as he waits for Real Madrid offer
Real Madrid’s defensive planning for the summer transfer window could be about to receive a major boost, with fresh reports suggesting that Ibrahima Konate is open to making the move to the Spanish capital.
According to AS, the Liverpool centre-back is attracted to the idea of joining Real Madrid and is even willing to wait for an official approach.
The situation surrounding the French defender is becoming increasingly intriguing.
This is because with his contract at Liverpool approaching its final months, there is still no agreement in place over an extension.
This uncertainty has naturally alerted several top European clubs, all eager to take advantage of a potential market opportunity.
Attracted to Real Madrid
Despite growing interest across Europe, Konate has not rushed into any decision.
In fact, reports indicate that he has turned down multiple approaches from clubs across Europe, choosing instead to remain patient.
As per the outlet, he is keeping the door open for Real Madrid.

Strong, athletic, and experienced at the highest level, Konate represents both immediate quality and long-term potential.
With defensive reinforcements high on the agenda, his name has been placed on the club’s shortlist.
What makes this situation even more compelling is the player’s position.
While nothing has been agreed and his representatives continue to downplay any advanced negotiations, there is a clear indication that Konate is highly interested in the move.
Liverpool not giving up
At the same time, Liverpool have not given up hope.
The Premier League club remain keen to secure his future and have made repeated attempts to convince him to sign a new deal.
However, the lack of progress has reportedly led to growing pessimism within the club.
Konate is said to be aiming for clarity on his future before the upcoming World Cup, meaning a decision could arrive sooner rather than later.
Until then, all options remain on the table, but the pull of Real Madrid is undeniably strong.
Liverpool pushing to renew Real Madrid-linked defender with long-term contract offer
One of the main areas that Real Madrid intend to strengthen in the summer transfer window is the centre-back department.
The Merengues are almost certain to bid goodbye to David Alaba at the end of the season. And the continued fitness issues bogging down the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao mean that at least one new addition is necessary.
Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool, to that end, remains a player that Real Madrid are tracking, even though the interest in the Frenchman has been on and off in recent times.
The fact that his contract expires in June makes him an enticing target for Los Blancos, although there have been some concerns about his performances this term.
Liverpool pushing for Konate extension
Amidst all this, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Liverpool are pressing hard to renew Konate’s contract and prolong his stay at Anfield.
Indeed, the Reds have already tabled a long-term contract offer for the French international and are continuing to push him to sign the deal.

The update further suggests that Liverpool’s chances of securing Konate’s renewal remain strong despite him attracting interest from several top clubs across Europe.
As mentioned previously, Real Madrid have had their eyes on the former RB Leipzig ace for some time now, but the interest seemed to have cooled down of late.
But, with other targets slipping away, Los Merengues have rekindled their pursuit of Konate and have him as an option to strengthen their backline for the summer.
But with Liverpool making strong efforts to convince their player to sign an extension and continue in Merseyside, only time will tell how things turn out as far as Real Madrid’s interest in him is concerned.
