San Francisco 49ers captured the NFL’s attention once again after acquiring a former Dallas Cowboys defensive star earlier this offseason.

In an effort to strengthen their pass rush, San Francisco made an aggressive move aimed at adding more firepower to an already talented defensive front.
The player at the center of the move is Osa Odighizuwa, who spent several years serving as a key piece within Dallas’ defensive system.
Before being traded, Odighizuwa had just completed another productive season while continuing to establish himself as one of the Cowboys’ most dependable defensive linemen.
Last season alone, the veteran defender recorded 52 pressures, three sacks, 29 hurries, and 20 quarterback hits throughout a turbulent year for Dallas defensively.
The Cowboys previously viewed Odighizuwa as one of the long term foundations of their defense, especially after signing him to a contract reportedly worth nearly $80 million.
However, everything changed quickly once Dallas surprisingly decided to move the 27 year old defensive lineman to division rival San Francisco earlier this offseason.

What shocked Cowboys fans even more was the emotional and aggressive tone Odighizuwa displayed only days after officially arriving in Northern California.
During a recent appearance on Richard Sherman’s podcast, Odighizuwa openly discussed his changing emotions surrounding both organizations and their rivalry.
“Back when I was with the Cowboys, I honestly hated the 49ers. But after getting here, my entire perspective completely changed.”
“This is an incredible locker room and an amazing organization. Right now, Dallas is the team I hate. I swear I’m going to crush them in the upcoming game for San Francisco.”
Those emotional comments immediately exploded across NFL social media and quickly ignited intense reactions from both Cowboys fans and members of the 49ers community.
Many Dallas supporters viewed the comments as betrayal, while San Francisco fans embraced the passion and competitive energy their newest defensive lineman displayed publicly.
According to the current NFL schedule, the 49ers and Cowboys are set to meet on November 15 inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
That matchup will mark Odighizuwa’s first opportunity to face his former team since the blockbuster offseason trade became official earlier this spring.
Inside the 49ers organization, many reportedly believe Odighizuwa could become one of the most important additions to the defensive front entering the 2026 season.
Last year, San Francisco struggled consistently generating pressure against opposing quarterbacks due to multiple injuries suffered by key defensive stars throughout the season.
Coaches believe Odighizuwa’s ability to create interior pressure will immediately help stabilize the pass rush and elevate the overall effectiveness of the defensive unit.
Beyond his production on the field, his emotional motivation entering the Cowboys matchup is already creating additional intensity throughout the 49ers locker room this offseason.
For San Francisco, this trade was never simply about adding another talented defender — it may ultimately become fuel for another serious Super Bowl pursuit.
