What began as one of the most surprising stories in recent league history has gradually evolved into something much bigger: a legitimate conversation about Purdy belonging among football’s elite young franchise players.

Despite entering the NFL with modest expectations, Purdy has transformed himself into one of the faces of the 49ers organization and arguably one of the league’s most dependable quarterbacks.

Now, one prominent NFL analyst believes his value extends far beyond San Francisco’s championship aspirations and places him among the most important building blocks in the entire sport.

Bleacher Report analyst Brad Gagnon recently ranked Purdy as the sixth-most valuable franchise cornerstone in the NFL entering the 2026 season.

The ranking focused exclusively on players aged 28 or younger who remain with the teams that originally drafted them and who possess the ability to elevate a franchise regardless of surrounding circumstances.

For Purdy, the inclusion itself is significant. The placement near the top of the list may be even more impressive.

Among quarterbacks, only Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels ranked ahead of the San Francisco signal caller, making Purdy the third-highest rated quarterback on the entire list.

He finished ahead of several established stars and rising names who have often received more national attention throughout their careers.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert, and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts occupied positions directly ahead of Purdy in the overall rankings.

Meanwhile, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was the only additional quarterback to appear inside the top ten, finishing one position behind the 49ers starter.

The ranking highlights just how dramatically perceptions surrounding Purdy have changed since entering the league under circumstances few quarterbacks ever experience.

As the final selection of the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy famously entered the league carrying the label of “Mr. Irrelevant,” a title traditionally associated with long odds and uncertain futures.

Very few players drafted in that position even become long-term backups, let alone franchise quarterbacks capable of leading Super Bowl contenders.

Purdy, however, quickly forced the football world to reconsider those expectations with a combination of poise, decision-making, and accuracy that immediately stood out.

While critics initially questioned whether his early success was sustainable, the production has continued long enough that those arguments carry considerably less weight today.

Statistics have become one of Purdy’s strongest defenses against skepticism, particularly when viewed in the context of NFL history.

Among the 270 quarterbacks in league history to attempt at least 1,000 passes, Purdy owns the highest career passer rating at 104.0.

That number places him ahead of Hall of Famers, MVP winners, and some of the most accomplished quarterbacks the sport has ever seen.
