The veteran will be hoping United’s fortunes improve under new boss Erik ten Hag next season.
Harry Maguire was named skipper by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the defender could be in danger of losing the role under Ten Hag.
Ronaldo would be an obvious choice and is already in the leadership group at United.
He was also the club’s top goalscorer with 24 goals in all competitions in 2021-22.
But things have not gone entirely to plan for the striker since returning to Old Trafford last summer.
