On March 20, 2017, Mundusi was spotted by members of the Masai community, who alerted authorities to his plight. The Kenya Wildlife Service and Big Life Scouts swiftly mobilized, recognizing the urgency of the situation. Mundusi’s condition was dire, his strength waning with each passing moment as he roamed alone, separated from his herd.
The DSWT rescue team, equipped with unwavering determination and expertise, sprang into action upon receiving the distress call. Led by the indomitable spirit of Angela Sheldrick, they raced against time to reach Mundusi’s location, guided by the coordinates provided by the DSWT Airwing. It was a race against time, with every second crucial to Mundusi’s survival.
When the team finally reached Mundusi, they found him weakened and dehydrated, but his spirit remained unbroken. Upon his arrival at the Nairobi Nursery, Mundusi faced a new chapter in his life. Confined to a stockade, the young elephant began the process of healing and rehabilitation under the watchful eye of dedicated caregivers.
