Paul Raynard and his friend Michael Gwynne, 52 years old, had the rare luck of a lifetime when they dug up a pot of gold.
Specifically, Paul and Michael are using a metal detector to search for a dropped wedding ring in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland.
One of the coins they found was an extremely rare Henry VII coin, estimated to be worth up to 5,000 pounds per coin. In addition, another coin dating from 1546 from the reign of King Edward VI is worth up to 3,000 pounds.
According to experts, what they found was the largest treasure trove ever found in Ireland, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. The value of the coins will be divided equally between Paul and the landowner, if they agree to sell or after the valuation process is complete.
It is known that Paul became interested in metal detecting at the age of 7, when his parents gave him a book about the treasure island. At the age of 36, Paul bought a metal detector for £600 that could find gold and silver items deep underground.
