Lionel Messi: ‘I’ve received love in Barcelona for many years, and I still do’
Lionel Messi has delivered heartfelt words after scoring twice in what could be his last official match on home soil for Argentina, a 3-0 victory over Venezuela.
“For many years I received love in Barcelona, and I still do. My dream was to have it here, in my country, with my people,” Messi said, recalling his time at Barcelona between 2000 and 2021.
“There were many emotions. I knew it was the last time here for points. I experienced a lot on this field, both good and not so good, but I focus on the best. I’m very happy. Finishing this way at home is what I always dreamed of,” he added.
Reflecting on his career and teammates, Messi emphasized: “Over several years there was a lot of talk, but I focus on everything good we achieved with the group that tried but didn’t manage to win. Later, it happened for me and a few others from that generation. Everything we experienced was beautiful.”
