Dodgers Veteran Announces Retirement Plans

Rojas told Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation on Thursday that he wants to retire after the 2026 season – as a Dodger.
“I’m 36 years old,” Rojas told McKain. “It’s been a wild ride. I’ve given it everything I’ve had in my four years here. Hopefully, I can finish my career here. Because I’m going to retire after next year.”
Rojas is eligible for free agency this offseason. In 2023, the Dodgers re-signed him to a one-year, $5 million contract with a $5 million option for 2025.
In his second go-around in Los Angeles, Rojas has settled into a valuable role as a reserve infielder. He saw time at all four infield positions in 114 games this season, slashing .262/.318/.397 and providing reliable – sometimes spectacular – glovework.

Rojas was worth seven Defensive Runs Saved and 2.1 Wins Above Replacement according to Baseball Reference, despite somewhat limited playing time.
The Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in 11 innings Thursday in Game 4 of the National League Division Series. They won three of four games in the series, and will advance to play either the Milwaukee Brewers or Chicago Cubs next Monday in the NL Championship Series.
The Dodgers traded Rojas to the Miami Marlins in December 2014. He played in Miami from 2015-22, burnishing his reputation as a reliable everyday shortstop with the ability to hit for contact. What Rojas lacked in power, he made up for by never striking out even 70 times in a single season.
