Miguel Rojas has made it clear to management that he wants to play for the Dodgers past 2026 and that he doesn’t want to retire yet

Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Sends Clear Message to Front Office on Free Agency

Miguel Rojas’ impact on the Los Angeles Dodgers will never be fully comprehended by those outside the organization.

The way his teammates spoke about him after his game-tying home run in the ninth inning of World Series Game 7, however, provided a little glimpse.

“It couldn’t have been a better guy. Oh my gosh,” Max Muncy said. “I mean, you’re talking about the ultimate team guy. He is willing to do whatever it takes to help this team win. When he wasn’t getting his playing time, he went to the coaches and said hey, how can I help out? They talked to him and he did everything they asked him to do. For him to get that home run to tie it up, brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.”

Said Freddie Freeman: “When you play the game right, when you treat people right, when you’re a teammate like Miguel is, the game honors you. To come up with that moment when you’re 36 years old, when you’re saying you’re going to retire after next season, to have that moment in World Series Game 7? Just absolutely incredible.”

With that being said, Rojas is now a free agent and looking for a new contract ahead of next season. He told Dodgers Nation before the season ended that he wanted to return to the Dodgers next year.

“I would say I want to go back and play for the Dodgers, especially what happened during the World Series. And I think we deserve an opportunity to three-peat together,” Rojas said. “That’s something that I’m always going to say — that is my main motivation. It’s not about me getting money or getting the right deal or anything like that. It’s like keeping this core together for one more year and give us an opportunity to three-peat. I think that’s the biggest motivation for me right now. It’s not about getting a contract or showing them that I can play somewhere else for more money or anything like that.”

He added: “I think we deserve an opportunity to run it back.”

Rojas has appeared in 341 regular season games since the Dodgers acquired him ahead of the 2023 season, hitting .260 with an OPS of .688 while playing above average defense all over the infield.

He’s also appeared in 15 postseason games, and had the season-saving home run in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

Rojas shouldn’t command too much money in free agency, as Dodgers Nation projects a one-year, $6 million deal in free agency. That’s a no-brainer for LA to allow him to finish his career exactly as he wants.
