Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb Reflects on Playing After the Death of Marshawn Kneeland: “It’s Not Going to Be Easy”

In an emotional interview this week, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb opened up about the challenges of continuing to play after the tragic death of Marshawn Kneeland, a beloved teammate and friend. Kneeland, who passed away unexpectedly last week, had a profound impact on the team, and Lamb made it clear that moving forward wouldn’t be easy.

“It’s not going to be easy,” Lamb began, his voice steady but heavy with emotion. “I’d be remiss if I told you that we’re just gonna go out here and then act like nothing ever happened just last week. For us, it’s doing it for him, using it as motivation, and obviously playing with a full heart.”

The loss of Kneeland, who had quickly become a leader in the locker room and a key figure on and off the field, has left the Cowboys reeling. But Lamb made it clear that while the pain is still fresh, the team will honor their fallen brother by continuing to give their all.

“For us, it’s about doing it for him,” Lamb continued. “We’re not gonna forget what happened. We’re going to use it as motivation to push forward, knowing that he’d want us to keep going, to keep fighting.”

Kneeland, who was known for his contagious energy, leadership, and commitment to his teammates, had a unique ability to bring the squad together. His passing has undoubtedly left a void in the Cowboys’ organization, but Lamb stressed the importance of channeling that grief into something positive.

“Obviously, we’re going to be playing with a full heart,” Lamb said, reflecting on the emotional toll of losing someone so close. “We’re gonna be out there with him in our minds and in our hearts every time we step on that field.”

Lamb also took a moment to express the gratitude he feels in the wake of Kneeland’s passing, reminding himself and his teammates of the importance of appreciating each day.

“We’re just going to be grateful for what we have,” Lamb said. “For the opportunity, for the next opportunity, for being here to play our game. It’s not guaranteed. Today, tomorrow, the next day—it’s all a blessing. So, it’s about living with that mindset and showing up for the next game, for the next play, for each other.”

While the Cowboys’ upcoming games will surely feel different without Kneeland’s presence, Lamb made it clear that the team will push forward, honoring his legacy by continuing to play hard and play for each other.

“Overall, it’s just another day of life,” Lamb concluded. “And we’re going to take advantage of it, for him, for us, for the whole team.”

As the Cowboys head into their next game, the emotional weight of Kneeland’s passing will undoubtedly be felt by everyone on the field. But with players like Lamb leading the charge, it’s clear that the team will carry on his spirit, playing with the intensity and heart that Kneeland embodied throughout his life.
