Lions Suffered Devastating Injury In Win Over Cowboys Thursday

Brian Branch carted off the field.
Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) is carted off the field due to injury during the second half against Dallas Cowboys at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025.

The Detroit Lions defeated the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, but they lost one of their top defensive playmakers in the process.

During the fourth quarter of action, Brian Branch went down with an injury while helping his team get a critical stop in the red zone. Most fans assumed it was an ankle injury for the Pro Bowl safety. Lions reporter Dave Birkett said Branch was in a boot and crutches following the team’s 44-30 win.

“Yeah, I mean, he didn’t finish the game,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “But there again, I’ll know more tomorrow.”

Unfortunately, the latest update on Branch’s status is devastating. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the third-year safety from Alabama suffered an Achilles injury.

“Lions standout DB Brian Branch is feared to have suffered an Achilles injury on Thursday night,” Pelissero said. “Branch will have further tests this morning. But another potential blow to a Detroit team coming off a huge win.”

If it’s a torn Achilles for Branch, that’ll end his season and potentially force him to miss games in 2026.

Fans react to the news.

As you’d imagine, Detroit fans are devastated over Branch’s injury.

“Prayers up I enjoy watching him play,” one fan said.

“Man, that’s heartbreaking… praying it’s not as bad as it sounds for Brian Branch,” a second fan wrote.

“Lions have led the league in games lost to injury the past two seasons and keep losing guys. All the toughness and grit is great but maybe it’s time to evaluate the process to see if something could be changed so anyone can stay healthy,” another person said.

In 12 games this season, Branch has racked up 75 tackles, 9 pass break-ups, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. In 2024, he had four interceptions for Detroit’s defense.

We’re wishing Branch a full and speedy recovery.
