A Fresh Start: Orphaned Elephant Discovers Love and Family at Elephant Nature Park

Meet Dok Geaw, a young elephant whose early life was filled with tragedy. Having lost his mother when he was just 4 months old, Dok Geaw was left alone and vulnerable. But now, he has found a new, supportive family at the Elephant Nature Park (ENP) in Thailand.

Dok Geaw’s mother, an elephant who worked in the logging industry, tragically passed away after being injured during childbirth. Forced back into labor, she succumbs to her injuries, leaving Dok Geaw orphaned and adrift.

Luckily, Khun Kanjana Silpa-Archa, an elephant rescuer from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, stepped in to offer help and support.

Initially matched with Sing Kon, another caring elephant, Dok Geaw found comfort and companionship. However, when Sing Kon becomes pregnant, taking care of Dok Geaw becomes increasingly difficult, causing her to reluctantly give him up.

After being rescued, Dok Geaw is happily playing with another young elephant.

Realizing Dok Geaw needed a stable family environment, Khun Kanjana arranged for his transfer to ENP when he was almost 2 years old.

Upon arrival, Dok Geaw was warmly welcomed by the other elephants at the park, who eagerly embraced him as a new member of their herd. Lek Chailert, founder of ENP, expressed his joy at Dok Geaw’s arrival, welcoming him with open arms.

Now settling into life at ENP, Dok Geaw has interacted with various elephant groups who have shown interest in welcoming him into their herd.

Rescued and cared for, Dok Geaw now enjoys playing with his elephant friends, taking mud baths, and building relationships with his new family members at ENP. The journey from orphan elephant to treasured member of the ENP herd is a testament to the power of love and compassion in bringing hope and healing.
