A dog who had scratched herself bald after being abandoned in a garden has made an amazing recovery and is now looking for a loving new home.
Five-year-old Shar Pei, Dais,y was taken in by the RSPCA Wirral & Chester branch in April after being rescued by the charity’s inspectors from a location in Wirral.
Animal centre manager Kay Hawthorn said, “Daisy and her friend, Lady, had been left in a backyard to fend for themselves.
“The dogs were incredibly skinny but as soon as they came to us we used a magical treatment called food and they both started to pile on the weight. They’d essentially been left to starve to death.
“Daisy was also suffering from a terrible skin condition and had practically scratched herself bald.”
The centre team started to give her special medicated baths to ease her itchy skin and she is now feeling much better although her coat still needs to begin to regrow.
Daisy’s friend, King Charles spaniel Lady, was rehomed and is doing well with her new family. But, Daisy is still looking for her paw-fect place to live – and the RSPCA is highlighting her story as part of Adoptober, a month-long rehoming drive promoting adoption and highlighting animals who are looking for homes.
Daisy loves to be around people but may need to be the only pet in her new home.
Kay added, “Daisy has been a pleasure to work with over the last few months and she’s shown a lot of love for all of our staff here. She loves to be out in the sun with the team and is a bright spark who would love to continue her training.
“We’d like her new owners to come in and spend time with Daisy before taking her home so that she can learn to trust them.”
Daisy was briefly rehomed earlier this year but was returned after a few months for being ‘too clingy’, Kay explained. She added, “We need to find her owners who understand and appreciate that she likes to be by your side and spend time with you.”
Daisy is ideally looking for a home with adults only or older children/teenagers, and where she’ll only be left for short periods of time.
