The Manchester United star suffered a disfiguring facial injury that required treatment in Saturday’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic.
The 37-year-old, United’s main substitute this season, came just 13 minutes into the game when he collided with home goalkeeper Thomas Vaklik of his, resulting in a nosebleed.
Ronaldo chased the ball played over the defense which Bakulik recovered. The two collided, and Vakulik’s arm slammed into Ronaldo’s nose. The game was briefly suspended while Ronaldo received treatment. He managed to finish the game by comfortably providing an assist to his 4-0 win.
Two days after his incident, photos of Ronaldo at practice show the striker’s eyes are swollen and he has a serious injury to his nose.
When Ronaldo messaged on social media after the game, he did not mention the injury. Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: “Great game, important team win! We will stay focused on our goals. Thank you to the Portuguese spectators for their amazing support.”
He is expected to lead again when the Nations face Spain in his league final group match on Tuesday. If they avoid defeat, Portugal can reach the final next summer.
United hope Ronaldo is not injured during the clash so he can properly fight for the Manchester derby against rivals City in the Premier League match on October 2.
