The puppy suffered a lot on the streets but finally is safe.
Tamara Johnston narrates what happened to Basil, a stray puppy rescued from the streets of Songkhla, Thailand.
But it was on the way to that place that she saw a small puppy that appeared to be only a few months old. With his stomach completely swollen while the rest of his body was emaciated, covered in fleas and ticks, and with a look of indescribable fear, in that terrible condition she found little Basil.
Tamara stopped to ask the people in the area if they knew anything about the puppy, if his mother would be nearby, and if he had an owner. One of the residents of the area explained to the founder of “Thai Street Paws Rescue” that the puppy had no owner, that his mother was not nearby, and that the puppy had a sister, but she had recently been hit by a vehicle on that same street.
Without further ado, she took him and drove him to the veterinarian where they administered fluids and medication to make him feel better. “Basil behaved wonderfully, although I think he was partly tired of being so sick. I’m sure it was a relief for him,” explained his rescuer.
Basil must stay at the vet for several more days, when he feels better he will be vaccinated and neutered, and he will move in with Tamara or one of the other shelter volunteers until he finds a permanent home. Johnston hopes to find an adoptive family for the little one soon.
