Messi, 38, joined David Beckham-owned Inter Miami in 2023 and has registered 52 goals and 25 assists for the MLS side in just 64 appearances.
Of course, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is enjoying the twilight years of an illustrious career, but has shown on multiple occasions that he can still roll back the years.
On Sunday, he scored a brace in Miami’s 1-4 win against Montreal, which put the Herons sixth in the MLS after 21 games this season.
But Messi’s future at the club is in doubt, with a shock report from French outlet L’Equipe suggesting he could move on when he becomes a free agent in December.

The outlet claims that Saudi Pro League side and current AFC Champions League holders Al Ahli have been working to convince Messi to join, although Miami are keen to retain the player beyond the winter.
The financial details involved are unclear at this time, but the Saudis’ interest in Messi is no secret.
If Messi were to join the side he would become teammates with former Premier League stars Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney. Al Ahli finished fifth in the Saudi Pro League last season.
Before he joined Miami in 2023, FourFourTwo reported that the Argentina international turned down an offer worth €1.5b (£1.3b) from Al-Hilal in favour of a move to the US.
Reports at the time suggested that Messi would receive around €500m (£432m) per year across a three-year period, which would be more than what long-time rival and Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo currently earns, having signed a new contract in June.

As per The Sun, Ronaldo will receive around £488,000 per day, equal to £3.42m per week, £20,357 per hour, £339.28 per minute and £5.65 per second.
He has also been offered several perks to become a “dream ambassador”, which would take his earnings to above £492m over the next two years.
Having both Messi and Ronaldo playing in the same league will, no doubt, bring yet more attention to Saudi Arabian football ahead of the 2034 World Cup which is set to take place in the Gulf State.

Lionel Messi aimed a rare dig at Paris Saint-Germain following his spell at the club as Inter Miami have set up a tie against his former side at the Club World Cup.
Inter Miami played out a 2-2 draw with Palmeiras on Tuesday as they finished second in Group A – behind their Brazilian counterparts.
The MLS team, who won one game and drew two matches during the group stage phase, face last season’s Champions League winners PSG in a blockbuster last-16 tie.
It will see Messi go up against his old side following his spell with the French giants between 2021 and 2023.
PSG snapped up the Argentine icon with view to winning the Champions League, which he failed to deliver during his two-year spell.
But they managed to secure their first European title in last season’s triumph over Inter Milan.

Messi, however, inspired Argentina to World Cup glory during his spell in Paris.
However, upon returning to his club, he aimed a dig at PSG – claiming he did not receive recognition for winning the World Cup.
“I was the only player that didn’t receive recognition from the club compared to my 25 other teammates,” he told Olga.
Messi’s jibe spread quick as Nasser Al-Khelaifi hit back with a blunt response.
“Outside there is a lot of talk, I don’t know what he did or what he didn’t say,” said the PSG president. “As everyone saw we even published a video, we congratulated Messi in training, and also in private, but with respect we are a French club.”

Messi also apparently told an opponent that life at PSG was ‘crap’.
That’s according to former Toulouse and Charlotte FC player Brecht Dejaegere, who spoke to the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner following an MLS clash.
“At the final whistle, I asked him if he felt better in Miami than in France,” Dejaegere told RTBF. “He was surprised… I told him that I had played against him with Toulouse at the Parc des Princes. He didn’t remember me, but it was my childhood dream come true.
“Messi has always been my favourite player! It was crazy to meet him. And so, that day, he told me that for him, at PSG, it was ‘crap’. Yes, ‘crap’. Because if at the beginning, the welcome from the Parisians had been good, he had been taken against following the failure in the Champions League: he was whistled at every ball and he was fed up.”
After PSG’s Ligue 1 title-winning campaign last season, Al-Khelaifi emphasised the club’s transformation, seemingly making reference to their superstar era.
“Everyone across the world of football has seen and admired the development of the Paris Saint-Germain team in this new era – our philosophy is based on the collective above everything else,” he said. “The star of Paris Saint-Germain is the team, and this star is shining so brightly.”

A massive new report has revealed the biggest update yet about Lionel Messi’s future after rumours he could leave Inter Miami following the Club World Cup.
Following a brutal 4-0 round of 16 loss to Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, MLS giants Inter Miami were knocked out of the Club World Cup last weekend.
Although the loss was no doubt hard to take for fans, the news that followed was potentially even worse, as some reports claimed that star player Messi could be set to leave the club in the near future.
It was claimed that the football great was considering a move to a more competitive league following the expiration of his current contract, which is set to run out at the end of this year.
This would allow Messi to join a top club in the January transfer window, giving him six months to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, with former side Barcelona emerging as the favourites to secure his signature.
And now, a new report has revealed the latest surrounding Messi’s potential departure from Inter Miami, and it’s good news for the 2026 World Cup.

According to The Athletic, although it is true that Messi’s contract will expire at the end of 2025, it is currently expected that he will extend his stay in MLS rather than moving elsewhere.
A source close to Argentina captain had previously said that this was the case back in April, and has again reiterated this to be the case in recent days.
The news will be a massive relief for organisers of the 2026 World Cup, which is set to be hosted across North America, as it will mean that Messi will stay within the United States and can act as an ambassador for the competition.

However, for European fans eager to see more of the greatest of all time after his impressive performances at the Club World Cup, there will no doubt be disappointment at the fact we may never see Messi in a Barcelona shirt again.
Since arriving at Inter Miami, Messi has made 63 appearances, scoring 50 goals and assisted 24.

The world’s richest footballer who has a net worth of more than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo combined has revealed the one career regret he has from his time in England.
Messi is seen by many as the greatest footballer of all time thanks to his eight Ballon d’Or wins, the majority of which he won during a legendary spell with Barcelona.
Ronaldo’s career has coincided with Messi and the Portuguese has five Ballon D’Or awards to his name, which he won during spells with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Both men are still playing professionally, with Ronaldo recently extending his stay at Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, while Messi is with Inter Miami in the MLS.
Thanks to their careers on the pitch, both men have built up extraordinary net worth, with Messi estimated to be worth $650million and Ronaldo’s estimated by some to be standing at more than $1billion.
But both of these figure pail into relative insignificance when compared with the net worth of the world’s ‘richest’ footballer.
Faiq Bolkiah, 27, is a member of the Brunei Royal Family and is the nephew of the nation’s Sultan, which makes him one of the heirs to his £200bn fortune.
Bolkiah came through the youth team ranks at several English clubs, initially being a member of AFC Newbury in 2009, before he joined Southampton’s Academy.

Bolkiah then left Saints and moved to Chelsea in 2014 and departed the Stamford Bridge club at the end of 2015, later signing a three-year deal with Leicester City.
He extended his time with the Foxes in 2019 for another year, before leaving the King Power Stadium outfit in 2020 to join Portuguese side Maritimo.
He left Maritimo in December 2021 to sign for Thai League 1 team Chonburi, and since 2023, the winger has been with fellow Thai side Ratchaburi.
Bolkiah also has trials with Stoke City and Arsenal, as well as a spell training with Reading, to further enhance his experience of English football.
But Bolkiah has previously expressed regret about the route his career took after leaving Leicester after having multiple offers on the table but choosing one in Maritimo which he ultimately looks back on as the wrong direction to have gone in.
Speaking to Main Stand, he said: “I had about three or four offers after Leicester.
“Maritimo said to me, ‘You’ll come here, you’ll play’, so I said, ‘I just want to be here for a year. The main thing for me is I want to play.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen.
“I definitely regret moving there. I feel like there was a lot of politics to do with it as well, why Maritimo wanted me. I didn’t feel like they were being fully honest.”
He added: “It definitely made me stronger. It definitely made me work harder and keep my head down. That didn’t change for sure. But I definitely made the right decision to leave.
“I had another two years left on my contract there. They changed presidents at the time, I went in there and they understood my situation. It wouldn’t have done me or the club any good for me to be there longer.”

Lionel Messi has reportedly made a demand to Inter Miami after they were knocked out of the MLS play-offs by Atlanta United.
Inter won the Supporters’ Shield for the first time in their history after an excellent Eastern Conference League campaign where they claimed 74 points from 34 games in the regular season.
They came up against manager Tata Martino’s side former side Atlanta in the play-offs for the MLS Cup and ended up having to play out a best of three decider after trading victories across two legs.
Messi scored his first play-off goal at the Chase Stadium but the Herons, the clear favourites to go all the way, were eliminated after suffering a 3-2 defeat.
And according to El Nacional, Messi has responded to the set-back by trying to initiate another huge signing for David Beckham‘s franchise.
Already surrounding by former Barcelona colleagues in Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Messi is said to be desperate to be reunited with Neymar, who he also played with at Paris Saint-Germain.
The report adds that Messi has already picked up the phone and called Neymar in a bid to convince him to join him in the United States.

Along with Suarez, Messi and Neymar made up one of the most devastating trios in football history and fired Barcelona to a memorable treble in 2015.
Messi wants to relive that experience once again and believes the MLS is the perfect place for Neymar, who has endured a difficult time in Saudi Arabia.
Only last month Neymar returned to action after a year out following an ACL injury but the Brazilian has been hit with another setback, having suffered a hamstring tear against Esteghlal FC.
He could be facing another six weeks on the sidelines and it is suggested that Neymar’s contract could be terminated in January.

Messi, Neymar and Suarez still have a group chat and the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner recently acknowledged that is it “difficult” for his former colleague to make the move.
He is also considering a return to boyhood club Santos, as per the report.
