Since Todd Boehly’s takeover, Chelsea have become known for aggressively investing in young, high-potential players.

High-profile signings such as Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo — both acquired for fees exceeding £100 million in consecutive transfer windows — highlight the club’s willingness to spend big on future stars.

Now, Chelsea may have another opportunity to land a statement signing, with reports suggesting they are tracking a Real Madrid player who will soon enter the final year of his contract.

Vinícius Júnior drew attention over the weekend after being substituted during El Clásico against Barcelona, cutting a frustrated figure as he left the pitch before engaging in a tense exchange with manager Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea are believed to be keeping a close eye on the Brazilian’s situation, amid growing suggestions that he may be unsettled in Madrid.

If those concerns persist, Enzo Maresca’s side could be prepared to act, offering Vinícius a potential route out of the Santiago Bernabéu when the summer transfer window opens.

Chelsea keeping tabs on Vinícius Jr’s future

According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Vinícius has effectively been given an ultimatum: commit to a new contract or risk being placed on the market next summer.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey explained the situation:

“Vinícius’ frustration isn’t new. His deal runs out in around 18 months, and Real Madrid have made their stance clear — if he hasn’t signed an extension by next summer, they’ll look to sell.

“Only a handful of clubs could realistically afford him. He’s not keen on a move to Saudi Arabia, which in England narrows the field to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

“While this type of deal isn’t typical of Chelsea’s current strategy, I don’t think Todd Boehly would ignore the chance to sign a generational star like Vinícius. His commercial appeal alone is massive.

“With just a year left on his contract next summer, we wouldn’t be talking about a £200 million fee. Chelsea shouldn’t be ruled out, even if a renewal remains the most likely outcome. Clearly, he’s not entirely happy.

“Vinícius is one to watch. Chelsea have admired him before, and he remains firmly on their radar.”

If the Brazilian ultimately chooses to leave Real Madrid, Chelsea would be wise to explore every possible avenue to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
