Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes‘ 1587 steakhouse is overpriced and ‘doesn’t nail the steaks’ in a vibe that presents customers with a ‘child-like idea of luxury’.
That’s according to the distinguished food critic Liz Cook, who has written a withering review of the venue for Defector.
Cook visited the venue twice before delivering her verdict and even stuck the knife in when she tweeted out her take by posting: ‘I regret to announce that I have visited 1587 Prime.’
She credited the restaurant for its popularity with diners in Kansas City, which is inevitably helped by the Taylor Swift effect. Across social media, Swifties have broadcast the efforts they’ve gone to in snagging a table, desperately hoping they will catch a glimpse of Kelce’s fiancee.
Cook also praised how the restaurant appears, with a marble staircase and servers dressed smartly. But that was about all she could offer that was positive.
‘There are at least two employees whose main job appears to be setting things on fire,’ Cook wrote about the menu and the famous cocktail on offer called ‘The Alchemy’, created in tribute to Swift.

Kelce and Mahomes opened up their steakhouse in Kansas City back in September
‘The drink tasted like a Cosmo someone had strained through a French Vanilla Yankee Candle,’ she added.
She goes on to describe her steaks being thin or overcooked (and arriving without a steak knife), ‘cop-outs’ on local touches that are meant to support local Kansas City businesses and ‘ChatGPT-grade luxury tropes’.
And on top of that, she added, you have to pay through the nose for it.
Her most expensive steak cost $78, she paid $15 for ‘three small ramekins of ketchup, one of which was pure uncut Heinz’ and her Alchemy cocktail came in at $22.
‘Complaining about the prices at 1587 Prime is like complaining about the wind on Mount Everest: predictable, but hardly the worst part of the experience,’ Cook wrote. ‘All the same, there is no need for anything this mediocre to cost this much.’
She added: ‘Ultimately, 1587 Prime is a parched vision of luxury’ with ‘rehashed ideas… and lazy local outsourcing for stations that a top-tier restaurant should staff.’
But like Cook said, with Kelce and Mahomes backed by the Swift factor, their restaurant will continue to welcome plenty of people through its doors.
At the time of writing, the next available table for booking is in three weeks, at 10:30pm on January 9. If you can’t make that, the next available slot is January 18.

Swifties have regularly packed out the restaurant hoping that they will see the singer there
Kelce and Mahomes have welcomed their teammates to the venue as well as their significant others since opening its doors to the public on September 17.
Before the official launch night, Swift and Brittany Mahomes joined their partners for a first taste of the menu and have been back on multiple occasions since.
Mahomes might soon have more time on his hands to help refine the dining experience. He tore his ACL last Sunday and had surgery to repair the knee injury on Monday night.
Kelce, meanwhile, still has three games left to play for the Chiefs in the regular season, even though Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers ended Kansas City’s postseason playoff hopes.
And if Kelce retires after this season, as a growing number of people expect him to do, he might be spending more time there too.
