ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan talked about the potential move on his “Breaking Big Blue” podcast.

He said: “The linebacker that the Giants actually were going to trade for, from the Kansas City Chiefs — it seemed to be before the start of free agency — Drue Tranquill.”

Raanan added that the star took a pay cut to stay as he “didn’t want to leave” his current team.

Tranquill reportedly took a $2.5million cut in order to remain in Kansas City.

His salary seemingly went from $6m to $3.5m.

Part of the linebacker’s commitment to his team might have been down to their Superbowl triumph in 2023.

He was a key contributor in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning defense.

They beat the 49ers 25-22 in February 2023.

This development opens new doors for the Chiefs if they seek new free-agent signings.

They secured legendary tight end Travis Kelce for another season in March.

Taylor Swift’s husband returned on a one-year deal worth a staggering $12m.

Following the Chiefs’ disastrous end to the most recent season – Kelce felt he could not go out in such a manner.

It came amid rumours of retirement surrounding the 36-year-old.
