New England Patriots Officially Cut Contracts with 4 Veteran Players in the Context of Mike Vrabel’s Team Rebuilding Plan Being Increasingly Pushed Forward.
The New England Patriots continue to make tough roster decisions as positional competition becomes increasingly fierce during the OTAs phase and training camp preparation.
According to sources from league circles, the Patriots have officially cut 4 players from the projected 53-man roster as the team is actively rebuilding both sides of the ball for the 2026 season.
The players being cut include: Rhamondre Stevenson (RB) Kayshon Boutte (WR) Milton Williams (DT) Robert Spillane (LB)
These moves clearly show that the Patriots are strongly accelerating the process of roster youth movement and optimization after a disappointing 2025 season in which the team failed to achieve the expected playoff goal.

One of the most surprising names is Rhamondre Stevenson. On offense, the Patriots are also parting ways with veteran wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. His position has become increasingly unstable after the team added depth to the receiving corps through the draft (draft WR). Boutte has had issues with low depth chart status and inconsistent performance recently. The team is building a younger receiving corps led by Kendrick Bourne, K.J. Osborn, and the new rookie wide receivers.
One loss on the defensive side is Milton Williams (Defensive Lineman). After developing veteran starters like Davon Godchaux and prioritizing younger talent, the Patriots have decided to prioritize flexibility and the potential of younger players. Williams was unable to separate himself from the highly competitive depth chart group.
Perhaps the most shocking name is Robert Spillane (LB). Although he entered the league with high expectations, he has not yet become the disruptive force the team had hoped for. After adding draft LB additions, retaining Ja’Whaun Bentley, along with the presence of other secondary starters, the roster space for Spillane has shrunk significantly.
