Patriots Rookie LB Carries Late Mother’s Legacy After Emotional Draft Moment

The New England Patriots added more than linebacker depth in the 2026 Draft, selecting a rookie carrying grief, resilience, and purpose.

For Quintayvious Hutchins, draft night became more than a career milestone, because it connected years of work to his late mother.

According to reports, the Patriots selected Hutchins in the seventh round, No. 247 overall, after his five-year Boston College career.

“I wish my mom could see this. I just kept working, kept going every day… and now I’m here with the Patriots. That means everything to me.”

That quote captured the emotion behind his journey, showing how personal loss became part of the fuel pushing him forward.

At Boston College, Hutchins played 43 games, recording 72 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one interception, and two fumble recoveries.

His final season showed leadership growth, as he became team captain and posted 35 tackles with two sacks.

At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Hutchins brings size, physicality, and aggressive energy to New England’s linebacker room.

His versatility also stands out, after moving from defensive end to tight end before returning to defense permanently.

For Mike Vrabel, that toughness and adaptability fit the kind of player New England wants to develop.

Hutchins may begin his career on special teams, where physical rookies often earn trust before defensive snaps arrive.

But his story is bigger than one roster spot, because every opportunity now carries his mother’s memory forward.
