Before taking the field against the Giants Sunday, the Cowboys displayed a memorial honoring Charlie Kirk and called for an end to political violence.

Four days after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on the campus of Utah Valley University, the Cowboys observed a moment of silence to honor him in their home opener against the Giants.

“This kind of tragic, deadly violence can have no place in our society, and we condemn all violence in our communities,” the Cowboys’ public address announcer, Jeff K, said ahead of the game. The Cowboys’ video board also displayed a picture of Kirk.

In the aftermath of Kirk’s death, President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff through Sunday evening. Several other teams, including the Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints, held a moment of silence or honored Kirk before their Week 2 matchups.

After memorializing him ahead of the Thursday night football, the National Football League allowed individual teams to decide whether to honor Kirk with a moment of silence or not, CBS News reported.

The Dallas Cowboys are hosting the New York Giants for their Week 2 matchup and are looking to get back on track. But this week comes with sad news, as the nation still mourns the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. Ahead of the game, Dallas decided to hold a moment of silence for the political figure.

It was a nice gesture that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys made Sunday morning. And the fans complied with a respectful moment of silence. People thought it was so silent that you could hear a pin drop. It was staggering to see in an NFL stadium.

Naturally, in response to the post, people’s minds were blown by how silent AT&T Stadium got for Kirk. So much so that they decided to let their sentiments be heard in the comments.

“I’ve never heard a stadium that quiet during a moment of silence before to be honest,” one wrote.

“Never thought I’d say it, but good for Cowboys fans,” another commented.

“You could hear a pin drop,” someone else said.

The comment section was filled with support for the Cowboys as they honored Kirk. A nice change of pace for a team that is constantly under fire. But they weren’t the only team that decided to have a moment of silence.

The Arizona Cardinals recently announced that they will be holding a celebration of life for Kirk on September 21st. Another nice gesture from an NFL team as the nation still tries to gather its bearings. Not everyone agreed with Kirk’s ideals, but most agree that nobody deserves to be killed over them.

Look for more teams to do something similar in the coming days/weeks. Kirk’s assassination was a massive story this past week that went viral. It only feels natural for teams to do something to show that they’re paying attention and that they care.
