The wait is almost over, 49ers Faithful.
With only six Sundays left until NFL football returns, the countdown to the 2026 season is officially heating up. And for San Francisco 49ers fans, that means one thing: Brock Purdy is getting closer to leading the team back onto the field.
After another offseason filled with questions, expectations, roster changes and championship aspirations, the 49ers are preparing for a season that could define the next chapter of the Brock Purdy era. The young quarterback remains at the center of San Francisco’s hopes, and all eyes will be on him when the team finally returns to game action.
Purdy enters his fifth NFL season after a 2025 campaign in which he threw for 2,167 yards and 20 touchdowns in nine regular-season starts, helping San Francisco go 7-2 in those games. He was also recently ranked No. 85 on the NFL’s “Top 100 Players of 2026,” another sign that the league continues to recognize his growing impact.
There is plenty of excitement surrounding the 49ers’ offense, too. Purdy has previously expressed confidence in San Francisco’s revamped receiving corps, calling the group a major reason for optimism heading into 2026. If the offense can stay healthy and find its rhythm, the 49ers could once again become one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams.
The countdown is now entering its most exciting stage. San Francisco’s preseason begins August 13 against the Tennessee Titans before the regular season opens September 10 against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.

Soon, the pads will be on, Levi’s Stadium will be rocking, and Brock Purdy will once again have the football in his hands.
The question is no longer whether the 49ers are coming back.
