A mother elephant and her calf become trapped in a deep mud pit, and even as rescuers race to save them, the baby keeps throwing himself back into the mud just to stay by his mom’s side.

Baby Elephant Refuses To Leave Mom's Side Until Rescuers Save Her From The Mud

Although elephants are extremely large, they still have issues that they have to deal with.

One of those issues is the possibility of getting stuck in a mud pit, and it does happen from time to time.

It actually happened to a mother elephant and her youngster and they were slowly sinking down, and it didn’t look good. The two of them did not have much of a chance, but they had some rescuers to help.

Rescuers from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust showed up on the scene, and the first thing they did was to try to rescue them. The problem was the mother elephant did not want the rescuers anywhere near her baby.

As the mother was trying to shield and protect the baby, the rescuers decided to sedate her. After they were able to free the baby elephant, however, he ran back to the mud and immediately got stuck again.

This scenario continues to play out over and over, but it really shows just how much the baby elephant was willing to comfort his mother.

Eventually, they sedated the young elephant and pulled them from the mud with straps and tractors.

Before long, the two of them were doing okay and heading back into the wilderness. You can watch the rescue in the video below:
